“Baltimore”
Nina Simone
Hard to believe the chorus of Nina Simone’s “Baltimore” hasn’t been sampled, it’d make a great hook on just about any hip hop track. “Baltimore was penned by Randy Newman and originally appeared on his 1977 album Little Criminals. Newman’s version is pretty terrific but his feels more like an outsider’s observation while Nina’s Simone’s feels like she’s lived it and is living it.
